Have you noticed that the homesteading world is growing like a wild fire?

People are taking responsibility for themselves in order to obtain freedom, safety, a better lifestyle, connection to the land, health, you name it. All of these resonate with me, but hands down the thing that has motivated my family to homestead more than anything else is our health.

Why is homesteading good for your health?

I’ll give you 5 reasons:

#1 – FOOD: This is an obvious one. Labels in the grocery store can only go so far. It may be organic, but how fresh is it? Where did it come from? What kind of preservatives does it take to keep it on the shelf that long? When we raise the animals and grow the veggies ourselves, or personally know the farmer who did, we have answers.

#2 – MOVEMENT: I’m not gonna lie, homesteading is hard work. You have to walk around a lot, lift stuff, and build things. All of that movement is built into your daily life, so you actually get all that exercise and benefit from it.

#3 – LESS STRESS: Some of us have to be intentional about this one. Attempting some level of self-sufficiency can actually create more stress than a conventional lifestyle, but if you can exit the rat race and build your own life on your own terms with your own schedule, you have the potential to leave all the regular stresses of life behind.

#4 – BEING OUTDOORS: Research shows—what we already knew—that spending time outdoors can significantly improve both physical and mental health.

#5 – A HEALTHY HOME: You don’t actually need to homestead for this one, but if you do, it’s a no-brainer. There are many components of a healthy home from indoor air quality to water filtration. If you’re moving to the country for your health, don’t build a house that will make you sick.

Each of these five topics warrant multiple blog posts in themselves, but this is a good summary of the healthy lifestyle that homesteading lends itself to. Don't be a couch potato. Let's get out there and live life to the fullest.
